activities for children

Sorting
Activity 1
Sorting objects in the junk box
Objective:- to let the children think about ways and means of sorting a given set of objects in possible different ways.
Materials required:-
Various kinds of vegetable
Junk boxes

Activity
Place all the objects mixed together. Ask the children to put the vegetables in to the junk boxes according to their sizes, colours and kinds.

Shapes
Activity: - identifying different shapes
Objective:- to let the children have an idea about shapes
Materials required:
Shapes one set of vegetables, fruits, flowers etc

Method
Jumble all the materials together
Ask the children to select the different shaped vegetables or other material
E.g. beetroot/ gova/ potatoes together.
Ladies fingers, pathola, and bitter gourd together

Ask the children to select their favourite type of vegetable, keep it on a A4 sheet. And draw the shape of the vegetable on the A4 sheet.
Or else we can do this using vegetable shapes cut on card board.

Activity 2:
Get some shapes of circles, triangles, squares, rectangles etc.
Give the children to observe these carefully
Give them to draw the shapes on the A4 sheets

Activity 3:
Give the children different shaped objects
Such as
Balls, boxes, pyramids,
Get the children to observe these shapes.
Ask the children to give those objects names.

Neighbourhood locations
Activity:- placing, showing and taking
Objective:- to identify the locations as far, near, on, top, in, between
Required materials:
Various kinds of fruits (plastic), vegetables, or other equipment

Method:
Ask the children to place the objects on a table.
Tell them to place the objects in the places you mention.
Such as
Keep the apples on the table
Keep the mangoes inside the basket etc
After the objects are being place, ask them questions as
Where are the apples placed?
Where are the papaws?
Where are the mangoes?
Answers should be as:
On the table
Near the basket
Inside the basket
Do this activity until they do this without making mistakes.


One to one correspondent
This activity is actually understanding by comparing each object of one set with each object of another set and observe whether the both objects of both sets are equal in number or less than one set.

Activity:- eggs and egg cups
Objective:- to let the children understand about the values equally.

Method:
Get a set of plastic cups
Some eggs
Ask the children to place the plastic cups in row.
Tell them to place the eggs more no’s than cups in front of the cups in a parallel row.
Refer picture 1
Ask then which row has more.
Ask them to place all the eggs inside the cups.
The children will realize that there are eggs more than cups.

Counting
Activity; counting objects
Objective: helping children to count
Required materials:
Some fruits about 5 from each fruit (plastic)
Junk box

Method:
Get the children to count the apples and put them to the junk box
Such as
Ask them to count three apples and put them to the junk box which mentioned 3
Ask them count 4 mangoes and put them to the box.
Ask them to count 2 papaws and put those to the junk box.
Measuring
Activity: measuring objects
Objectives:- understanding about the weighs of different sized objects.

Method
Get a scale.
Measure different amount of objects in the scale and observe the weighs of the objects.
